The role of the learning journal is one that helps not only develop learning, but also trace it. When starting a journal it may be that there is a limited view ion business which can also be very cynical. There has been an increasing amount of interest in businesses to behave in an ethical manner, and also an increasing level of criticism aimed at business. This has been seen by the many campaigns of interest groups such as friends of the Earth and Greenpeace and the public emotion they have stirred. Conversely there are businesses that do appear to engender the public good will for ethics; companies such as Ben and Jerrys or the Bodyshop have all met with success, part of which must be seen as being a reflection of that public perception of ethical behaviour. The problem with ethics in business can be seen in the way that there is a conflict between the ideals of ethical behaviour and the goals of business, where profits are the primary goal, and other stakeholders can be seen as a poor second.
