a sport that we see on something of a consistent basis and it even more recently that the kickboxing sport has truly begun to bring more professional kickboxers, as most previous events seemed to have participants that were not really kickboxers, or were not really very good. The following paper provides a brief overview of kickboxing in the United States, with a discussion of Thailand as well where Kickboxing is a very serious and respected sport. It should be noted to the student requesting this paper that there was no information easily available in relationship to how kickboxing was involved in local or state economies. This is because it is not an incredibly popular sport and thus the events are few and far between, really making little impact on local or state economies at present. In addition, much of the information asked by the student could only truly be associated with the sport in Thailand, therefore some of those questions are addressed when speaking of the sport in Thailand. Kickboxing Interestingly enough, the kickboxing interest in the United States was always considered somewhat second rate and was only followed by a sort of underground movement. One author notes that "Though the sport was quiet in North America several Americans had made names for themselves while serving in the military and stationed in the Orient during the Vietnam War" (A History of Kickboxing: North Americas Suprisingly Taboo Kickboxing History, 2005). This illustrates that anyone from the United States who was truly interested in the sport had to look outside the country. In the past few decades kickboxing has offered some interest to those who follow it in the United States, but most events were considered weak and were seen as events that did not represent the sport ...
