As the internet grows in scope and popularity in the 21st century, it increasingly changes the way in which business is practiced. There are few aspects of business which are not today affected in some critical way by the internet, from design to manufacturing to shipping and everything in between. One of the areas in which it has had the greatest impact, however, is in advertising. In fact, the internet is a domain largely supported and sustained by ad revenue, so this is only appropriate. For multinational corporations, there is a particular trend towards internet marketing which attests to the potential effectiveness of such strategies. This paper will examine the internet marketing strategies employed by two multinational organizations, Amazon and Google. This paragraph helps the student understand exactly what it is that Amazon does. The first of the multinational organizations in question is Amazon, a website dedicated to retail which offers visitors the opportunity to browse or search for items in a number of categories from DVDs to books to appliances and electronics. Amazon is based in the United States, but operates branches in Japan, the United Kingdom, and a number of other countries. While primarily a retail outlet, the company has recently started moving in new directions, including the founding of a publishing house, as well as manufacturing proprietary hardware such as the popular Kindle e-book reader. Google, on the other hand, is something of a different animal altogether.
