Instead, many people believe that molds are not good because people are allergic to them, and also, they can put a bad taste in ones mouth if present on food. When molds are found in foods, they can grow and create an unsightly appearance as well as unappealing and unusual tastes (2002). They also create disagreeable odors. Many are familiar with this. Some molds are able to create toxins and are hazardous to human health ("Space Foods," 2002). Dampness, warmth, and oxygen, as well as favorable pH, and the absence of light are optimum conditions for growth for molds (2002). There are other forms of growth such as toxic mold. Some television specials on this have been designed to warn people of the effects of mold in their homes. Several law suits have resulted from the growth of mold. The important thing is that people are not exposed to toxic mold in their homes or eat mold while preparing meals. Sometimes, people will make sandwiches and not realize that mold is present. Therefore, in exploring the toxic of mold growth, bread will be used as the host in this experiment. PROBLEM Many people notice that when they put a loaf of bread into the bread box, it sometimes will come out moldy. The mold is unsightly and it smells. It is something that no one wants to happen.
