Of the myriad functions literature has in a social, political and cultural concept, reflecting the past reproduces the very essence of humanity as it was in that particular age by eloquently chronicling the subtlest nuances of mans benevolent existence, while at the same time displaying human nature in all its sordid glory. The words interwoven within the context of literary works from another time carry with them a great deal of power to such an extent that people who read them centuries later are wholly able to recreate the passion and pain of the period merely by turning the pages. At the same time, however, literary works from another age help to dispel myths and mistruths about the past that have erroneously been passed on as fact.
