to prove that someone is a "cyberstalker", at least legally, can be a trying experience at best. In this particular case, students
Brad and Naomi were paired together on a college class project, became attracted to one another, then started to date. However, after the relationship ended (because Naomi was secretly seeing
someone else), Brad continued to keep in touch with her through e-mails and over the Internet. But Naomi felt threatened by Brads cyber attentions. Though she tried to ignore the
problem, thinking it would go away, she actually learned she was being psychotically cyber-stalked (which included threats), and she decided to take legal action. As it was found out later,
Brad, who was under treatment by a psychologist, suffered from a split personality. In other words, the ways he behaved could be attributed to his mental state, rather than willful
or malicious forethought. The issue brings up the following two questions: Should Brads cyberstalking
behavior toward Naomi be considered "real" stalking, as it took place only online? Should Brad be convicted for the crime he did
unconsciously? To answer the first question, its helpful to examine what, exactly, the definitions of stalking and cyberstalking are. One challenge in
