Of course, some philosophers do not even buy the design argument, emphasizing that humans evolved over time. Thus, some feel they were not created at all, and so there is not necessarily a superior being in the world. But Hume did not dismiss opposing arguments. Quite the deep thinker, this philosopher explored the problem from both sides of the fence. In his book called Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, Hume created fictitious characters to wage both sides of the argument. Cleanthes took on Humes view where he supports the argument from design position. This argument, as Hume favors and has been waged by others like Descartes is also sometimes called the Teleological argument. Teleological arguments are those that rely on assumptions about the world to prove Gods existence. For example, one may say and many of these philosophers have said, that the world is merely too perfect for it to have just sprung up by itself. Of course, scientists generally use their art to support their assumptions about the world. They point to evolution and how that makes sense. At the same time, supporters of the argument from design see a babys perfect little fingers with unique fingerprints and the fact that the honey bee can perform a necessary function in the world, and simply all the wonder that the world is endowed with, and say that this could not have just arose by chance.
