The aspect of selective remembering has been the subject of myriad scientific studies, inasmuch as researchers want to understand more fully the reasons behind childhood amnesia. Adults who cannot remember a great deal of their young past are often prompted by family or friends as a means by which to trigger certain memories; however, studies have demonstrated that merely reminding someone of an event in which he or she participated during childhood is not the same as the individual recalling the event.
