The following paper examines how terrorism has affected air travel on a global scale. Terrorism and Air Travel One of the most obvious ways in which terrorism has affected air travel is through security costs and measures. One author notes that, "In the panel Terrorism and the Travel Industry, the participants highlighted the severe impact of major terrorist attacks on the transport and tourism industry," indicating that although many sectors were harmed, it was air travel that suffered the most through security implementations (International Summit on Democracy, Terrorism and Security, 2005). These measures were costly, yet clearly unavoidable according to the summit. One individual at the summit noted a very important fact, stating that "Terrorism is of course not a new issue for any European country" and it is likely not a new issue for many regions around the world (International Summit on Democracy, Terrorism and Security, 2005). What made the 9/11 attacks so prominent, is the fact that the United States was involved. But, the truth is that terrorism has been going on all around the world for a long time. As such it may be that the affects of terrorism on air travel have primarily only affected how Americans travel. Terrorism is also something that has clearly affected the way certain people travel, and to what destinations people travel. But, statistics demonstrate that people are traveling internationally regardless of terrorism.
