Indeed, Rice barely nods to the standard coffin, cape and blood cocktail scenes which rule previous versions. Forget about killing one of Rices creatures with a stake because in this authors world, the stake bears no power. Rice diverges to include evident tones of sexuality, among other themes, in her outlook on vampires. Interview With The Vampire Basically, this is the story of a vampire, Louis, who is telling an interviewer, who is only referred to as "boy", all about how he came to be a vampire and why he very much regrets the decision (Berardinelli, 2002). And then I was attacked. It might have been anyone - and my invitation was open to sailors, thieves, maniacs, anyone. But it was a vampire. He caught me just a few steps from my door one night and left me for dead, or so I thought (Rice, 1994, p.11). It all started when Lestat, a very old vampire, gives Louis the choice to either die or have eternal life as a vampire (Berardinelli, 2002). Louis chooses eternal life but almost immediately regrets it (Berardinelli, 2002). Rice creates the character of Louis as a very humanistic vampire, that is, with emotions and sympathy.
