By 1905, Honus Wagner had made the Louisville Slugger an even bigger household name by authorizing his name to be branded upon ever bat, which ultimately represented "one of the first known professional endorsements of sporting goods" (Dimitroff et al, no date, p. slugger.htm). Hillerich and Bradsby was instrumental in the war effort during 1941, utilizing its craftsmen and plant equipment as a means by which to lend a corporate hand. After entering into both the golf club and hockey stick industries, Hillerich and Bradsby began production of aluminum bats in 1970 for softball and amateur play; shortly thereafter, the manufacturing of gloves, mitts and other tertiary products was implemented (Dimitroff et al, no date, p. slugger.htm).
