To properly implement a plan that would meet this demand, Hewlett-Packards management team needs to determine the best way to forecast variations in the market, how to manage their inventory and workforce and what cost factors need to be considered. FORECASTING TECHNIQUES Forecasting can be classified into four basic types: qualitative, time series analysis, causal relationships, and simulation (Chase et al, 2004). Qualitative techniques are subjective or judgmental and are based on estimates and opinions. Based on the information provided using the qualitative technique would supply the best analysis for determining the right decisions concerning inventory controls and supply. Hewlett-Packard has maintained accurate and extensive records of past sales and services in the European market. Further, Hewlett-Packard has established and maintained records which determine the time necessary to customize the DeskJet Printer for the European market. With the past records and information, Hewlett-Packard should be able to accurately estimate the future needs of the DeskJet Printers in Europe.
