NATURE AND IMPORTANCE OF LITERATURE The business world requires a considerable amount of direction within the supervisor/subordinate situation; however, it is clear that leaders can no longer be relied upon to provide motivational techniques in order to bring about significantly better productivity. The literature illustrates how employees have been handed the job of being more proactive in their respective performance, including such aspects as developing and maintaining a positive attitude, performing over and above basic expectations, empowering others to improve, being open to change and cultivating strong communicative skills. In short, workers must now take on many characteristics of standard leadership when it comes to basic operation if they are going to become and remain an outstanding contribution to the company. One particularly important component of the literature is how consistent with tutelage of any kind, encouragement through effective communication has proven the most effective method of evoking positive results than the inherently negative influence of coercion.
