you write your final paper, using ours only as an example.] Exactly where and when global warming began is a matter of significant debate. One thing scientists know is that this is not the first time global warming has happened (Anonymous 4). About 250 million years ago, volcanic activity caused what has been referred to as the "Great Dying" (Anonymous 2005, p. 4) and it was this event "that may have caused the biggest mass extinction on the planet" (Anonymous 2005, p. 4), killing as much as 90 percent of all living creatures and plants (Anonymous 4). It is also known that the earth has had cycles of warming and cooling over the millennia (Anonymous 4). It was unusually warm in Europe between the 10th and 14th centuries, for example and it was also about that same time when solar activity increased (Anonymous 4). In fact, the Vikings took advantage of the unfrozen seas between 1100 and 1250 to colonize Greenland and other far northern territories (Anonymous 4). This warming period was followed by what is called the "Little Ice Age" that occurred from the latter part of the 13th century until the 19th century when climatic temperatures began rising again (Anonymous 4). However, six of the 10 years in the 1990s were the "hottest years on record" (Anonymous 2005, p. 4). These scientific facts advise us first, that there are warming and cooling cycles that seem to occur on a regular basis and second, that a definite change happened in the 1990s. The temperatures recorded had never been seen in history before. This is not news to any person on earth who is sensitive and who can objectively discuss the weather. Everyone knows it is hotter than in the past. The National Center for Policy Analysis reported that ...
