The EU offers an open and free market by which to sell German products (The European Union and Germany, 2004). It is in the selling of these products that the German economy is able to grow (The European Union and Germany, 2004). There are political reasons as well (The European Union and Germany, 2004). Through the European Union Germany is able to initiate itself politically without instilling the fear that many countries continue to equate with Germany (The European Union and Germany, 2004). The world certainly does not fear an aggressive European Union, whereas the perceived threat of an aggressive Germany is real (The European Union and Germany, 2004). Therefore, the European Union offers Germany a means of relating positively to its neighbors (The European Union and Germany, 2004).
