consider these observations. First: "We believe that communication becomes gendered when sex or gender overtly begins to influence your choices-choices of what you say and how you relate to others." This may be backwards, since research indicates that there are substantial differences in the way men and women communicate verbally with others. Men tend to avoid eye contact while women use it; men "talk for status" while women "talk for solidarity"; men "fight for fun" while women avoid confrontations if possible; men tend to make decisions and then discuss them whereas women discuss options and then make decisions; and men are talkative in public and quiet in private where women are the opposite (Gender differences in language use). Thus it would seem likely that there will be differences in communications by virtue of the gender of the speaker. The difficulty might come in if that speaker shies away from expressing himself or herself fully because of the fear that they will be thought "weak" if theyre men and "pushy" if theyre women. That is, a woman may have a strong and logical argument but will not present it for fear of seeming too aggressive and mannish. Likewise a man may have a strong intuitive sense of a subject, but keep it to himself for fear of being made to feel "girly"-intuition is after all supposedly confined to women. If communication becomes gendered in that sense, then the speakers may deliberately make choices that will reinforce their gender identity rather than dealing with the matter at hand. Second: "Communication is a word that you hear frequently, especially since technology has become so sophisticated that we can easily and quickly interact around the world."
