Introduction The media and film in particular is a result of the society that produces it. The presentations may be ideological, fantasy or depictions of reality designed to inform, entertain or educate. In this sense film can play an important role. It is a useful medium that can achieve many goals at the same time. One young, award wining writer and director is Fatih Akin. Born in 1973 in Hamburg, this Turkish director has developed the presentation of Turkish Immigrants in film in a way that starts to challenge the stenotypes without challenging social structures. The films may be seen as reflecting reality depicting unusual events or situations, but presenting real conflicts and issues that reflect this history of the area and the feeling of many long term immigrants. Germany has a history of rejecting or integration the need for integration, this has meant that unlike many other areas where integration of immigrants has taken place, in Germany there are separate identities which can result in misunderstanding the reinforcement of negative stereotypes.
