reaction to the pizza she ate there as approaching the sublime. To support these impressions, she describes the nature of Neapolitan streets, which have the "exoticism of a Middle Eastern
bazaar" combined with a "touch of New Orleans voodoo" (Gilbert 182). Gilberts title implies that she is writing about pizza, but, as her description of Naples implies, her purposes extends
far beyond simply describing the culinary delights of the city. Rather than focus solely on food, her intent is to convey the emotions that visiting Naples generated for the author.
In so doing, Gilbert succeeds in conveying a sense of the energy that she associates with Naples, along with a sense of appreciation for the feel of the city and
its characteristics. My Favorite Place My favorite place in the world, and one that was highly influential in the early formation of my world perspective, actually consists of 19 separate
locations that border the National Mall, which stretches from the Washington Monument to the Capital, in Washington, DC. These museums are collectively known as the Smithsonian. When I was a
kid, roughly around the age of ten, I visited the Smithsonian for the first time with my family. It was spring, which is a time when the mall presents sights
and smells that delight the senses. Beds of daffodils and tulips combine with the fragrance of roughly 3,000 Japanese cherry trees in a glorious and riotous celebration of beauty and
color. From a distance, the cherry blossoms on the trees surrounding the tidal basin in the middle of the mall look like pure-white snow drifts captured in the limbs and
