Organizations might well rely quite heavily upon employees who harbor the same sets of values and visions it reflects, however, employees must also find companies that represent their individual visions and values prior to taking the job if they expect any degree of shared objectives. Characteristic of humanitys constant quest for the concept of meaning, the journey of understanding has come to represent myriad things to myriad people, ultimately rendering any universal explanation virtually impossible. The problem with meaning as it applies to personal and organizational values is attempting to successfully pinpoint a single yet comprehensive connotation to its concept; however, this cannot be achieved as long as any two individuals harbor decidedly different interpretations. As such, there exist a great many philosophies by which people live their lives and organizations run their businesses, which help maintain order and a sense of direction; only when these values coincide with each other can both individual and organization achieve the mutual goal. "Developing and communicating a vision is one of the more glorified competencies that a leader engages in...Vision is for the leader what mission and values are for the organization - powerful statements of purpose and passion" (Quinn et al, 2002, p. 184). When vision is not shared between employee and organization, the two entities end up working against each other and producing little in the way of the primary objective. Having a strong vision is often what helps companies work through some of the more challenging aspects of their particular business.
