it can provide a good reference for people undergoing a medical procedure. In this paper, well examine a flyer detailing a C.T. Scan
for children. Issued by BC Childrens Hospital in Vancouver, BC in Canada, the two-page flyer involves basic information in preparing a child who will be facing a C.T. Scan (C.T.
Scan, 2009). This particular flyer is very basic, consisting of a front and back. The layout is mainly text, with no pictures or
art. However, there is plenty of white space and the paragraphs and sentences are relatively short. The information is directed to parents
of children ages infant through 5 (apparently assuming that children older will not have special requirements that the younger ones will). The text outlines very clearly what can be expected
and how to prepare the child for the scan. If there are any criticisms its that the font used is somewhat difficult to
read - typically "serif" fonts (such as Times New Roman) are best for reading blocks of copy. Furthermore, the layout is a little bland. The information is certainly written clearly
and concisely, and there are no major medical terms that might cause someone to stumble. But theres nothing really exciting to look at, either. While the purpose of a brochure
or pamphlet is to convey information to a specific audience, its important to draw that audience in with visual appeal. This particular flyer is very much lacking in that appeal.
