good example of terrorism at its worst. People talk about the terrorists who went to their deaths expecting to see virgins in heaven as their reward for their role in the hideous acts. Yet, the truth is that the factions of terrorists are only representative of cult-like groups associated with religion. That is, no credible mainstream religion would endorse murder or any sort of human sacrifice. When religions do endorse such things, the society labels them as cults. That said, it is true that many terrorist acts are associated with Christianity or Islam. For example, there has been terrorist acts perpetrated against abortion clinics in the name of Jesus Christ, and terrorists who are Muslim take responsibility for many bombings around the world. Such terrorists claim to be religious, but this does not mean that religions endorse terrorist activity. Therefore, religion as it is known really has no relationship with terrorism. One Columbia University professor by the name of Mahamood Mamdani suggests that terrorism does not necessarily have anything to do with the culture of Islam (Presbey, 2007). Rather, he believes that American support for these rogue groups are responsible for the outcome (Presbey, 2007). Either way, the idea that religion and terrorism is linked is a fallacy. Fanaticism is associated with terrorism. Just the notorious murderer Son of Sam blamed his actions on his relationship with a higher being, people have often used religion and God as excuses for their actions. Similarly, Charles Manson sent his people out to murder in order to start a race war. It was a part of a grand plan associated with a religious bent.
