1. Introduction The workplace can be very competitive, with many applicants for q single job where wages are high and skills are easy to find, in other areas of the employment market recruitment may be difficult for the employer. This shows how this is a market with a mismatch between potential employees and their skills and employers needs. If we apply this to the commonly viewed employment market the need to compete for jobs or gain skills to get a job can be challenging for many applicants, but if we then apply this to the job seekers that have disabilities the difficulties can be magnified unless they are unusual enough to be in a field where the demand for skills is greater than the employment market can satisfy. However, we look at disability and employment there is little doubt that the employment figures among the disabled are much lower than in the able population. This is not merely due to practical consideration with some people less able to work, but due to the difficulties faced in finding work, from the beginning stages of gaining qualificaison to the barriers such as employer discrimination. Ironically there does appear to be greater gender equality in terms of work, and discrimination among the disabled compared to the on disabled population. If wee focus on males they are managing to attain only a 1% higher work rate than the females (Office for National Statistics, 2004). These are not the only elements that need to be considered, not only in terms of gaining a job and the resulting financial gain, work is also an element of social life and helps create social bonds and form self identity, especially true in male disabled people ...
