The story of creation is one that explains the origins of the universe as well as the origins of humanity. The following paper examines the creation story of Islam.
The Creation Story First off, we note that the creation of the universe, according to the Quran does not eliminate the possibility of the "Big Bang" theory. The Quran indicates
that, "the heavens and the earth were joined together as one unit, before We clove them asunder (21:30)" (Huda, 2004). After this Allah turned to the sky which had previously
been like smoke and said, to the sky and earth, "Come together, willingly or unwillingly" (Huda, 2004). The earth and the sky came together willingly obeying. Allah had established the
natural laws of how the universe worked and with this all things began to come together with the planets and stars cooling and coming into balance (Huda, 2004). In
addition, "The Quran further states that Allah created the sun, the moon, and the planets, each with their own individual courses or orbits" (Huda, 2004). And, these courses are not
necessarily set for the Quran indicates that the universe continues to expand and thus is the plan. A verse states, "The heavens, We have built them with power. And verily,
We are expanding it (51:47)," is often contended by many scholars in light of the fact that it was not until fairly recently that scientists actually discovered the that universe
expands (Huda, 2004). It is also interesting to note that in relationship to the creation of the universe, the Quran indicates that the universe was made in six days,
which is quite similar to the Bible. However in the Quran the word used for "day" is often interpreted throughout the text as meaning varying lengths of time, something that
