A 15 page paper on the recent economic problems that are plaguing Indonesia and causing many of the citizens to attack the Chinese people of that country. While only a small percentage of Indonesia is comprised of Chinese individuals, it is those Chinese who make up the largest percentage of shop-owners and as a result of this the Chinese have been attacked for causing the rapid economic decline of Indonesia. A brief section on the history of the Chinese in Indonesia is included followed by a section describing some of the riots of 1998. The remainder of the paper is essentially devoted to the politics behind the unrest illustrating that the issue of the economic decline that is plaguing Indonesia is not the fault of the handful of Chinese who live and work there. Bibliography lists 9 sources.
