the Nazi holocaust in Europe prior to and during the Second World War, there were persecutions and arrests of all members of the minority groups targeted by the Nazis, including
children. Even though children were not specifically selected, whole families were taken, especially from Jewish and gypsy families, and the children were often the most vulnerable prisoners and those at
the greatest risk.
They were rendered homeless and frequently orphaned after having witnessed the violent death of other members of their families. Even though they were often more adaptable to changed conditions than
adults, their youth and relative weakness decreased their chances of survival in the camps, where they were subjected to violence, starvation and hard labour until their deaths.
The documentation regarding the number of children
