The author argues that performers, in the past, have risen above incredibly personal difficulties to go on with the show, and essentially argues that Ellen should have done the same thing. The following paper discusses the points made by Kind and argues that she is a bit too harsh on Ellen and is making relatively invalid points, or arguments that are not necessarily valid. Breakdown by Florence King King, in the beginning, notes the following and thus lays the foundation of her argument: "When the host of a comedy show has a crying jag on camera and then cancels her next two shows because her disconsolate woe just keeps getting worse, we cant help wondering, Where can a funny lady go from here?" (King, 2007). To this King simply indicates that she has no where to go and that it is "checkmate...for Ellen DeGeneres" (King, 2007). In this foundation statement or question and answer, the author is indicating that because Ellen got upset on television her career and any attempt at comedy will forever fail. It is indicating that Ellen has all but destroyed her popularity and this one act of sorrow and confusion on screen has ended any respect anyone would have for her. It is an argument where King leaves no room for argument or for having a different opinion. She assumes everyone is "wondering" where she can go from there. King does not offer any understanding, or room for understanding, of those people who may have vehemently supported Ellens ...
