This is a particular problem in society in general, but Borrelli focuses on how it is perhaps more significant in the political arena. The most obvious point that really goes above and beyond the book is that there has never been a female president or vice president. That fact is so obvious that perhaps it is missed. Yet, that single piece of data provides a clear indication of gender and how gender plays out in politics. In other words, one can pick apart language, suggestions and actions by presidents and staff members, but the truth is that the gender bias is no secret. In some sense, the points made in the book are moot because of this larger than life difference in respect to gender and society. The fact that Borrelli finds the difference important appears to be somewhat naive. Yes, she proves to a great extent her thesis about gender and power, but the reality is that there has always been a significant gender divide, that less is expected of women on one hand, but more on the other. The public readily believes a man but women have a harder time convincing others of their own worth. For example, a man will provide his opinion and it has value. Yet, women will give their opinions in a different, less direct manner. For instance, Condoleezza Rice is a powerful woman in government today. As National Security Advisor, her role is immense. Yet, she does not provide her opinion as an absolutely strong notion. Rather, she cites it as "just her opinion." She says: "I think of myself as a facilitator.
