we see the priest coming to the ships of the Greeks with ransom for his daughter. The Achaeans are there to do battle with the Trojans over the taking of
Helen from Menelaus. More than the running away of Helen with Paris, more than the loss of the riches they took with them and more than the intercession of the
Gods and Goddesses the battle between the Achaeans and the Trojans is about the sanctity of the marriage. Honor is at stake and for honor men will die. Agamemnon has
broken a minor rule of honor when he refuses to give up the daughter of Chryses for love or for money. It is then, on page one, that the Gods
first interfere with the fates of man. "And which of the Gods was it that set them on to quarrel? It was the son of Zeus and Leto" (Homer 1).
