The following paper examines Benjamin Franklin in his role as one of the founding fathers of America, illustrating how his influence was very powerful. Benjamin Franklin: A Founding Father "Benjamin Franklin, a poorly-educated Boston boy who ran away from home to find his fortune in Philadelphia as journalist, editor, printer and publisher, founder of its University and of the American Philosophical Society, was the nearest to a genius of all the Founding Fathers of the United States" (Wright 18). He was a man of vision, as well as a man of deep thought. He was intelligent in a way that enabled him to see things others seemed to have missed. He was also an incredibly adept politician because of these unique abilities. It was likely due to his personal efforts that enabled the United States to win its independence. One author notes that he did not want to see political separation and went to Paris to make sure that the French supported the cause of the United States and it was this act that "ensured American success" (Wright 18). He was also present in the convention that drew up the Constitution (Wright 18). It was also noted, however, that "Indeed it is said that he would have been asked to write the Declaration of Independence but for the risk that he would have put a joke in it" (Wright 18). Franklin was well liked by most people and was a very gregarious individual aside from being very intelligent and clever.
