There are several wars which, in particular, had a dramatic impact on the direction and formation of England as a nation. The English Civil War of 1642 is one of many civil wars that Britain suffered through. However, this war of the others made a significant contribution to the way people began to view the role and position of the monarchy. This war was called the Great Rebellion. The king thought everything was progressing nicely and did not want any changes in Church and state. Parliament, on the other hand, sought extreme changes in both institutions including economic reforms and for a redistribution of power on the national level. The other significant factor to come from this war was the man, Oliver Cromwell, who was to later devise the New Model Army system still evident in military organisation today. Though there are those who would state that the second civil war was more important, from a quick review of the facts, it seems that, that war was really a cursory remark from the first war. Much of it had to do with Charles and his attempts to reinstate himself. Instead, he was used as a pawn, kidnapped first by one, then the other group and used as bait. How the might do fall. The next war of significance would be the Crimean War. So far as Britain was concerned, the end of Crimean War had a number of results that were little to do with the war itself.
