psychiatric disorders of Oppositional Defiance Disorder, Conduct Disorder and Anti-social Disorder. Children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder will also exhibit anti-social behaviors. There is a definite link between anti-social behavior in children and adolescents and subsequent criminality. As children grow older, if their symptoms, such as aggressiveness or impulsivity, become worse, they will likely commit criminal acts (Jones, 2005). This author explains that Oppositional Defiance Disorder is characterized by irritability, noncompliance and argumentativeness which often transitions into conduct disorder. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is characterized by impulsivity, a lack of focus and an inability to be still. Conduct Disorder leads to violating societys norms and rules (Jones, 2005). Basically, the major components in anti-social behavior is the lack of prosocial behaviors and the presence of anti-social behaviors. There is no doubt that both genetics and environment play a role in behavior. Human behavior geneticists have found that certain genes control impulsivity and aggression (Burfeind and Bartusch, 2011). Research has identified three specific genes that are most associated with the traits of anti-social behaviors and aggression and that can lead to criminal behavior. These are DAT1, DRD2 and MAOA (Burfeind and Bartusch, 2011). MOA (Monoamine oxidase) is an enzyme that has been found to have a relationship with anti-social behaviors. MAOA is the structural gene for production of this enzyme. Four other chemicals, epinephrine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine, have also been linked to anti-social behavior and criminal behaviors (Jones, 2005). Serotonin is involved with depression and anxiety. A disorder can lead to aggression and impulsivity (Jones, 2005). Genes have been linked to anti-social behaviors, conduct disorder, oppositional disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The specific genes identified with aggression are 5-HT genes. The 5-HT.sub.1B gene has also been linked to anti-social personality disorder (Baker, Bezdjian and Raine, 2006). Various ...
