Olympic Gods: The Greek Gods live on Mount Olympus they are ruled over by Zeus in the heavens, Poseidon rules the seas and Hades rules the underworld (Pomeroy et al,
2009). The Greeks also have many minor deities and religions that include mythical creatures such as the centaur and demigods such as Herakles (Pomeroy et al, 2009). The
Romans main deities were those of the Greeks, although with different names for example the Greeks main God was Zeus, the Romans renamed him Jupiter (Dillon and Garland, 2005).
Similar to the Greeks the Romans also believe in mythical creatures like the centaur and a demigod, their own version of Herakles is Hercules (Dillon and Garland, 2005). Furthermore
the Romans also incorporated other countries and religions into their own way of life, for example the Romans once they had travelled to Egypt would also pay homage to some
Egyptian Gods such as Isis and Horus. In Britain and Gaul there is evidence of the Romans mixing their Gods with those of the indigenous tribes, this is known as
syncretism and a classic example is that of the Celtic goddess Sulis being merged with the Roman Goddess Minerva, thereby producing the joint name of Sulis Minreva (Dillon and Garland,
