for PAC-10 Consulting. PAC-10 Consulting is trying to develop a pool of candidates who would be qualified and ethical to participate on the boards of directors of various large corporations. First, well begin with the cover letter. The assignment asks that the student consider at least one example of a corporate code of ethics that is admirable. For purposes of this paper, we would suggest using the Credo that was created by consumer care products company Johnson and Johnson. This particular Credo is an ideal one, because the very first sentence deals with the concept that is lacking today in most corporations -- that of responsibility. The Johnson and Johnson Credo has in its first paragraph a "responsibility is to the doctors, nurses and patients, to mothers and fathers and all others who use our products and services" (Johnson and Johnson). The Credo goes on to say other things about the importance of employees and the community, but what was most impressive was the idea of this company being willing to take responsibility. Even better, the Company actually believes in its words -- during the early 1980s, when Tylenol was found to contain poison, Johnson and Johnson pulled all Tylenol products off the shelf at great cost in order to ensure the safety of consumers. The Company did this, even though in the end, the company was not at fault for the deaths resulting from the poison pills. Therefore, probably the best corporate code for the student to follow would be that of Johnson and Johnsons.
