Music is a special language that has the ability to mirror emotions and elicit a direct emotional response from listeners. Therefore, the overall plan for this composition would follow sonata-allegro form, with the various section of the piece, i.e., exposition, development and recapitulation, structured in such a manner that they elicit emotional responses that mirror those of the original tragedy. The opening section, i.e., the exposition or statement, in sonata-allegro form presents two "opposing keys and their respective themes" (Machlis 180). This writer/tutor imagines this work beginning in a major key, such as C major, in order to express the normality of the pre-9/11 world. The beginning theme would be therefore consonant, with a rapid pace in 4/4 time, exhibiting a meter and beat (marked Allegro) that invokes images of modern city life. It would be somewhat similar to the way that one feels the rhythms of city life in Gershwins American in Paris. Perhaps, as in this Gershwin work, the orchestra might include car horns, which makes the analogy quite clear. Against this primary theme, however, there is tension building in the strings and deep in the bass with an instrument capable of adding ominous color, perhaps an oboe or bass clarinet. This opposing theme would be in A minor, which is the relative minor of C major. This tension builds, and crescendos to a tremendous climax that is played by the percussion section, involved every virtually percussion instrument.
