the case with any particular genre in literature, there are specific elements, plot styles, and character types that go into writing a fantasy story. The following paper examines, in a
tutorial fashion, these elements while providing examples of a story. Writing a Fantasy Story It seems that a very good place
to begin is to envision the type of fantasy story that will be written about. For example, one could write about an urban setting that is filled with mythical realities,
or one could base a fantasy story on ancient stories or legends. For this paper the foundation of the story will be connected to the classic tale of Hansel and
Gretel. Instead of the individuals being children the two characters can be young adults, named Peter and Daphne. They live modern times
and are brother and sister. They have long felt as though they had some special powers, but in a modern world they do not necessarily trust those feelings. One could
perhaps envision that one day their parents suddenly disappeared. Perhaps Peter and Daphne are from an impoverished family, perhaps their parents were arrested and sent to prison, or perhaps the
parents simply abandoned the children. There are many directions such a story could take. In this case one could claim that the parents simply disappeared and Peter and Daphne decided
that they needed to find them. In essence, the writer is creating a world, a fantasy world. The following provides further information on the building of a world in fantasy:
