Of course, the advent of television was only the beginning. The telephone which was once a thick black receptacle tied to the wall is now down to practically just a headset or small receiver. People now talk in stores-seemingly talking to themselves-with the aid of Bluetooth headsets. In the future, it will probably be the norm to see people walking and talking without holding anything. That is where hands free communication is headed. While many people are used to this wireless revolution, it is interesting to look at its history. Wireless is something that is aligned with progress in terms of technology and some call it " a new era of telecommunications" ("History of Wireless," 2007). Yet, the technologies are really an offshoot of radio and have been around for quite awhile ("History of Wireless," 2007). Marconi would experiment with radio waves in the latter part of the 1800s and he tried to produce these waves and prompt them to travel great distances ("History of Wireless," 2007). The beginnings of wireless goes back to the eighteenth century when Marconi would obtain a patent to increase the Wireless Telegraph and Signal Company ("History of Wireless," 2007). This was the very first radio factory ("History of Wireless," 2007). Wireless technology would progress over the years and first be used by the military ("History of Wireless," 2007). The first wireless LAN arose in 1971, after school had begun to experiment with computer networking ("History of Wireless," 2007).
