on one hand, sport organizations should ban substances, especially if they create an unfair advantage for a particular athlete. Not only is the problem of an unfair advantage a dilemma, but these agents can harm people. The student goes on to look at the other side of the coin which is the idea that winning is important as is the idea of building character. The fact that society supports winners comes into play. Indeed, it does appear that sport in society is something highly encouraged. The idea of midnight basketball had been viewed as a way to discourage teens from getting into trouble. A student concludes with the following observation: "So let them all use drugs they want. I just want to see how far the ball will travel, how much they can lift, and how fast they can run!" Clearly, there are two sides to this controversy. While some believe that such ideas are acceptable, the vast majority of people think it is scandalous and do not believe that these sports icons should set a poor example for the children of the world. Yes, fans do what to see how much weight a human being can lift if he is optimally fit but some are wary of the effects of performance enhancing drugs and argue that it will create an unfair environment. Of course, the use of drugs is not a recent phenomenon. Metzl (2002) points out: "The use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports is nothing new. In 300 BC, two competitors were barred from the first Olympiad in Greece due to illegal ingestion of animal protein" (p.27).
