agree and disagree on whether or not certain laws should be in place, but they do agree to obey them. This compromise of sorts makes for a country with a rule of law, something that prevents anarchy and chaos. Yet, while it may be the case that people agree with the sentiment that they will be law abiding citizens, there are sometimes laws that affect them so thoroughly they feel they must break the law. Sometimes, the law does conflict with personal values. Of course, there are many laws that conflict with habits such a jaywalking or smoking marijuana, but those are things one can easily either break or to which one may consent, and there is no moral quandary. Yes, people like to cross in the middle of the street and they may take a chance even though it is against he law. Many people smoke marijuana and in some states it has been decriminalized or legalized for medicinal purposes. People break the law and do use illegal drugs. Some people will abide the law even if they would prefer to smoke marijuana because it is not very important to them. Of course, there is law that seems to be just outright wrong. Sometimes, custody battles will take an awful turn. There have been cases when parents would kidnap their own children because they feel that the law has unfairly taken them away from them. Sometimes, a court will take children away because it feels that the parents are not taking care of them with medically necessary treatments. One case in the news where the court ordered chemotherapy involved a boy named Parker Jensen. The parents refused to go along with the ruling and allegedly kidnapped him in response to the order.
