Essay / Research Paper Abstract

An 8 page paper discussing the effects of war on the national economy. Though the "typical" response to wartime activity is that the national economy improves, this is no typical situation. We are not officially at war with any particular country, which likely has a dampening effect on releasing the beneficial economic aspects of war. The economy had been teetering on the brink of recession simply as part of the classic business cycle, and the terrorist attacks likely pushed it over the edge. Another says "that the current war will be expansionary and will, therefore, help the U.S. economy recover from its current slowdown" (Why the War Against Terror Will Boost the Economy 30). Even the Civil War had positive economic effects for the North (Logue 611). When the nation emerged from the recession of 1991-92 (at the end of the Gulf War), the country set off on a period of expansion that would prove to be "the longest period of economic expansion since the end of World War II" (Happy Birthday 1), which as already stated helped to end the final effects of the Great Depression.
