outline of how she/he might put together a similar essay. HOMOPHOBIA: A PERSONAL VIEW In the present society it is virtually impossible to escape the overt and often subtle ways
in which homosexuality is still portrayed as a deviant behavior. As such, then, it is also virtually impossible to escape feeling some sort of homophobia. How this may affect a
person depends on their background and the environment in which one was raised. Someone who is just now entering college or finishing up high school might have the perspective
of live and let live. As far as homosexuality is concerned most people could care less what someones sexual orientation is. What one takes exception to when someone begins forcing
or flaunting their sexuality in front of, or toward, themselves or others. Unwanted advances are just as unwanted whether the person committing the act is gay or straight. However, to
make jokes about someones sexuality is considered, at least in the circles that I hang in, to be lame and beneath contempt. Also, in the last few years, homosexuals
have become more militant. However, from ones perspective, it still remains: race is not a choice, ones orientation is. The plight of the homosexual for equal rights cannot be thought
of in the same terms as someone who is fighting for equal rights based on race. And this argument has been at the heart of the debate for many years.
