                                                    The potential future of the European Monetary Union is a complex issue and one which is dependant on a variety of factors. There are, it is evident, imbalances  
                                                
                                                    inherent in the strength of individual currencies in the member states of the EU; for instance, the British pound tends to maintain a position of relative strength against the dollar  
                                                
                                                    and with regard to other European currencies, whilst this is not the case for other states.           The ECBs anti-inflationary policies  
                                                
                                                    are not always structured in the best financial interests of all countries in the EMU, due to the necessity of assimilating and addressing the economic problems of such a diverse  
                                                
                                                    range of separate domestic economies and fiscal policies. On the other hand, as various critics have pointed out, there is no framework in place for the possible dissolution of the  
                                                
                                                    EU, and therefore it is more probable that it will either disintegrate totally or achieve a much stronger degree of political and fiscal unification than was originally predicted. Most of
