That one theory frames the way we regard plants and animals both as individuals and in the way that they relate to each other in an evolutionary sense and an ecological sense. The theory of natural selection can be used to explain how an animal or plant has evolved to fill a particular ecological niche and, with it, we can trace there development back into time to link seeming unrelated species to one another in an evolutionary sense. Before Darwin Darwin, of course, wasnt the first to ever consider the idea of evolution. In fact, much of Darwins theory is not even attributable solely to him even at that early point of our scientific history. Darwin himself acknowledges this fact in "Origin of the Species". He details the contributions that others had made to this theory. In actuality the theory of evolution was not one which originated with Darwin (Bera, 2008). Darwins own grandfather for example had projected theories on evolution long before Darwin embarked on his now infamous journey. Darwin was in fact very familiar with the work of his grandfather and indeed with the work of others who had speculated on evolution long before he did (Bera, 2008). Darwin actually composed a list of books which he had read during his second year in medical school (Bera, 2008). This lists contains the works of his grandfather as well as medical books which included significant debate regarding evolution (Bera, 2008).
