Similarly, Islam is also related to Judaism, but instead of Jesus Christ as their leader, Muhammad is considered a messenger of God; instead of using the New Testament, the Quran establishes a set of beliefs and is the basis of the religion (Esposito, 1978). Still, these are all religions that see God as a central presence. The religion of Islam began during the seventh century A.D. in Saudi Arabia by a man known as Muhammad (Hunt, 1978). At the age of 40, while wandering in a desolate area of Mecca, an angel appeared to him as a culmination of many visions he reported to have had throughout his life (Eliot, 1980). This had initiated his quest to find a true religion. Muhammad believed that both Judaism and Christianity had strayed and the people must get back to following the law of God. While believing in both the Old and New Testaments, Muhammad and his followers saw Jesus Christ as a prophet but not the Messiah. Muhammad was also deemed a prophet. Islamic law is precise; ones mission is to follow Gods will to the letter (Esposito, 1978). The law is therefore followed precisely. The Holy Quran expresses a way of life that those who follow Islam should follow. II. The Translation of the Holy Quran While the origin of the Quran is something that had emanated from Muhammad, time would pass before it actually appeared in print.
