A 5 page discussion of the historical role of the U.S. in world affairs. This paper notes that the U.S. as equally regarded as the most powerful nation in the world and the most glorious by most of her citizens. This role, however, has required both perseverance and strength to maintain in terms of the many historical trials with which we have been confronted. It has also resulted in significant resentment and hatred by outside entities. It can be contended, however, that the delicate balance which we have been able to maintain throughout many key moments of our history is best evidenced in a comparison of our military intervention in world affairs and its relation to international peacekeeping. Numerous examples are provided in support of this contention. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

The United States is equally regarded as the most powerful nation in the world and the most glorious by most of her citizens. This role, however, has required both perseverance and strength to maintain in terms of the many historical trials with which we have been confronted. It has also resulted in significant resentment and hatred by outside entities. It can be contended, however, that the delicate balance which we have been able to maintain throughout many key moments of our history is best evidenced in a comparison of our military intervention in world affairs and its relation to international peacekeeping. Many times, in fact, the two go hand-in-hand. While national defense is an inherent expectation for any military, it seems that peacekeeping missions only fall to the strongest of the worlds powers. That same quality has allowed us to be considered one of the most glorious of these powers as well. Power in the United States consists of numerous varied aspects. In most cases when one considers the concept of power they do so in relation to military might and political influence. There are other aspects of power as well, however. Some contend that the U.S. may be declining in military power and political influence. In reality, however, our political and military might is directly tied to our fortitude as a free people and a democratic nation. We continue to influence and direct the rest of the world in ways which sometimes are quite apparent but other times are quite subtle.
