there are profiles. Indeed, the profile of the serial killer is generally a middle aged man who hates women. There is the stereotype, but it is uncanny that so many turn out to fit that depiction. The typical psychopath, serial killer as portrayed in Alfred Hitchcocks Psycho seems to be on the mark when examining the cases of serial killers Ted Bundy, Joseph Miller and Ken Bianchi. In honing in on these three dangerous characters, there are certainly differences in terms of upbringing and heredity, but there are striking similarities. Can one truly figure out the path of the serial killer by analyzing a few cases? Is the boy down the street who kills a cat destined to make headlines? Is the petty thief in the neighborhood more dangerous than he looks? Indeed, there are clues as to whom might turn out to be a serial killer, but of course, such killers are few and far between. General criminal theory helps, but it is perhaps the details in the backgrounds of these three killers that help one to discern at least one path of the typical serial killer. II. Case Studies Kenneth Bianchi was a serial killer but he did not work alone. Bianchi is one half of the duo called the Hillside Stranglers ("Angelo Buono and Kenneth Bianchi," 2005).
