discussed has been the subject of much study in recent years, it is only in recent weeks that the draft document has been released for debate. In the European press this has passed with little attention, most references to the release of the draft European Constitution taking place on the middle pages in side columns only. The UK has traditionally resisted many of the collective tools of the European Union, not a member of the single currency and a generally negative perception of the way in which power within the EU is welded there is likely to be a different perspective taken in the UK press. The question that is to be answered by this paper is; is the UK media coverage of the draft European Constitution favourable or unfavourable to the way in which it will dictate policy and impact on the UK. To assess the coverage of the perception given to the Draft European Constitution a representative sample of UK Newspapers has been selected. Articles that have the term European Constitution both within the header or first paragraph as well as included later in the article are defined as acceptable articles. The articles are then examined individually. To assess the coverage and whether or not it is favourable they will be coded. The coding will have three options, where the constitution and the approach or attitude towards the condition is discussed this will be coded as wither positive, neutral or negative. Neutral statements are likely to be factual statement where there is not real opinion given, or where it is stated that the impact will not be negative or positive, such as it having little effect, if any.
