SA141din.rtf Abstract Much attention is paid to a variety of factors when designing advertising campaigns or promotional materials for individual or chain restaurants. Yet, it is important to carefully look at exactly what attracts people to particular restaurants. Discussed are a variety of factors that draw people to restaurants including kid appeal, prestige, loyalty and food selection. Leisure is discussed as a component and demographic studies are considered in evaluating restaurant choice. I. Introduction A customer might frequent a particular restaurant or bar because he or she has a good rapport with the waitresses, or they may like the way an issue had been handled by management. A person may also decide on a place to eat due to a particular advertisement or because friends had recommended it. But why do people really choose restaurants? What attracts people to particular locations? Dining behavior in the restaurant business is an important topic in respect to marketing and advertising for those in the industry. Relevant questions crop up in respect to what exactly influences peoples decisions on where to eat. Do all people pick by their palates, or might consumers choose according to price or value?
