Up until the time that the footage was shown, bits were heard about the trial of Saddam Hussein and while covered, it was not covered as extensively as a trial like OJ Simpsons was for example. While Saddam is notorious, the trial was uninteresting. People automatically thought that he was guilty and it is hard to say that he was not. After all, it is rather well known what a tyrant he was. At the same time, this is an important trial and goes to world events. Hussein was actually convicted and executed due to the role he played during the 1982 Dujail massacre where 148 Iraqis had been killed after an attempted assassination against himii. But it is not clear whether or not he did receive a fair trial and media did not take great pains to provide an objective look at the trial. When covering trials such as that of Saddam Hussein, and others of such world importance, what is the role of the journalist?
