Most of the impact of federal policy is felt within the economic system of the individual states. Bearing this in mind the following paper presents a general examination of the impact federal policy has upon the states and local communities. Federal Policy and the States It should perhaps be noted, first and foremost, that the impact federal policy has upon the individuals states is incredibly vast and extensive. There is, therefor, no way to truly examine all of the various impacts federal policy has upon our nation. In light of this the paper will focus on a few examples of how federal policy has effected the states, economically, broadly speaking. In our first examination we note that there is a powerful relationship between federal policy intended to improve conditions and the negative consequences seen in individual states. In an article within the publication The Economist one author notes that "FISCAL stimulus is the rage in Washington these days, as Democrats and Republicans fall over themselves with proposals to revive the economy. On October 24th the House of Representatives passed $100 billion of (mainly corporate) tax cuts" (Anonymous A clash of wills; The economy, 2001; p. NA). Some of the top United States senators argued for spending money on "unemployment benefits and subsidies for health-care premiums. There is argument about how best to do it, but no one doubts a big budget loosening is on the way" (Anonymous A clash of wills; The economy, 2001; p. NA).
