founded upon universal laws and art that traditionally challenges the application of specific constructs. Ramachandran maintained that there are universal laws in relation to the development of aesthetics
and that this can be understood as a function of the development of art. Perspectives on aesthetics and the original of art are not new; theorists like Nietzsche,
Heidegger and Aristotle all reflected on the underpinnings of art and the correlation between aesthetics and the purpose of art. Heideggers artistic focus was based on the foundation of
truth as portrayed in artistic renderings and noted "the nature of truth is in itself, the primal conflict in which the open centre is won within which what is, stands,
and from which it sets itself back into itself" (Heidegger, 2001, p. 55). Art, then, is defined by the pursuit or application of the "truth," perhaps in relation to
the way the artist perceives the truth. By effectively establishing the concept of ones consciousness, Heidegger (2001) demonstrated the manner by which all reality is based upon each individuals
perception of what that reality is ultimately to become. This type of thought becomes the essential core in the development of aesthetic sensibility. The conceptual view of the
notion of truth and the correlation between art and truth become elements that Ramachadran challenges, especially in regards to the Aristotelian view that art is a reflection of life.
Nietzsche (1995), who was "convinced that art is the highest task and the essential metaphysical capability of this life" (p. 8), also reflected the belief that aesthetic perspectives and the
application for artistry change over time. Linked to this, then, is the belief that aesthetics are linked to cultural elements. Ramachandran (2004) argued that "...looking for universal
